Amir  Konjani


Amir Sadeghi Konjani (b.1983) is a composer, performance doer and Situation maker. The  composer of the music for the OSCAR winning movie 'The Silent Child' in 2018,  has worked with eminent conductors such as Clark Rundell, Gregory Rose, Peter Manning (ROH), Christopher Rountree (LA Phil) ; harpist Sioned Williams (BBCSO), Grammy nominated pianist Vicki Ray (LA Phil), violinist Darragh Morgan, Erika Duke-Kirkpatrick (CalArts), Anne LeBaron (CalArts), The Finzi Quartet, and the poet Ahmad Shamlou.


Amir secured commissions from London Symphony Orchestra (appointed by Jerwood composer+), the BBC World service,BBC News, British Museum, Royal Air Force Museum, CalArts, Ether Festival and others; his works have been performed at prestigious venues worldwide such as  London’s South Bank, at the Ether Festival in London, Ashleywood Festival, Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Royal Academy of Music, Royal College of Music, US-California Institute of the Arts, the Fajr Music Festival, Aun Gallery, Mohsen Gallery in Iran and on television broadcasts and commercial CDs.


After gaining his BMus in Tehran, Amir won a scholarship to Trinity Laban, and gained his MMus there under the tutelage of Stephen Montague and Dominic Murcott. In 2011 Tansy Davies selected Amir to study composition with her and Mira Calix on the prestigious Dartington Music Summer course, and in 2012, he was highly commended for using light bulbs as a conducting tool.

During 2014-15 his imaginative work for prepared piano and tubes received high critical acclaim whilst he studied at the California Institute of the Arts, where he also lectured in composition, orchestration and Performance Art.

Amir has been awarded a full scholarship to study for a PhD at the Royal Northern College of Music.His research relates to Perfomance Art, Theatre and Performativity.

​In 2017 Amir’s trumpet concertino (in which the player was submerged in a bath) has been premiered at the RNCM Hall and his film score was nominated for Sydney Indie festival. He has also been nominated for two Gold medals in composition and premiered the piece "The Rigid Dichotomy" at The North West Festival, Conducted by Clark Rundell.

Amir has invented a new method of composition called 'shadowing' and ‘tube-spacialisation’, where music is made with tubes and springs. He is also a composition tutor at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of music and dance.
